The Dolphin Man has Soul!

In 1989, on the Big Island of Hawaii, I met a man who felt he sadly started a worldwide “craze”- dolphin amusement parks! It was Ric O’Barry‘s work with the TV series Flipper that blew into a multi-million dollar business of capturing dolphins from the wild, and putting them into cement tanks for human enjoyment. After his last Flipper, “Kathy” died voluntarily into his arms, Ric immediately changed from a dolphin trainer to a dolphin activist. Almost 40 years later, and Ric continues to save dolphins from a life of imprisonment with his “Dolphin Project“, “Save Japan Dolphins”, and the moving documentary, “The Cove“.

Ric has soul… like the ocean – deep and mystical.

I feel honored to call him a friend and thankful he has inspired me to continue doing animal and environmental actionism!
